What are the wages at BT Openreach?
New trainee engineers begin with a starting salary of £21,845 per year and recruits will earn up to £28,353 after only 12 months of specialist training.
BT Openreach goals
Openreach hopes to reach 25 million homes and businesses by the end of 2026 and the company has included 3000 apprenticeships in order to achieve its target.
In the wake of the pandemic and with restrictions easing, there is fierce competition for new staff in the UK labour market. Reports suggest that starting salaries have already begun to rise as firms compete for new staff.
With full-fibre broadband available, it is estimated that almost 2 million more people could now take advantage of working from home; thereby reducing congestion and housing problems in the bigger cities whilst providing a much-needed boost to the more rural communities in the UK.
Energy Bills Going Up
Despite not having increased salaries as part of the drive for new staff, Openreach has announced a pay review to take place in April which conincides with our energy bills going up. According to ofgem, the price crap is to increase by £693 from April.
